Patreon was created to enable fans to support and engage with the artists and creators they love. Empowering a new generation of creators, Patreon is bringing patronage back to the 21st century.
I thought of this idea a little while ago of how cool it would be if budding artists could be supported directly by people who enjoyed their work and wanted them to keep going. And I just recently found Patreon, which does exactly that. :)
It all just ties in with this idea I have of the future, of creativity/businesses being entirely crowd-funded. Like instead of a company making a product and then hoping people buy it, based off some market research they gathered, companies will be able to already KNOW people are interested in their product/what they do. Writers will already KNOW people want to read about their concept. Movie directors, song producers, etc will be able to provide a sample of what they do and be able to CONTINUE their work, if people like and support it. I think it will make things a lot more streamlined/efficient as well as more accessible for the general people to do things.
I'm glad someone else thought of the idea and has created it already. Doing it like this online is even cleverer, like an artist version of Kickstarter. Makes me happy that there are people who believe in some of the same things I do and are making things happen. :)
