So I recently read a Wait But Why article on: Elon Musk: The World's Raddest Man And it was
Really, really good.
OKAY, so I need to figure out new ways of describing things in ways other than "it was really, really good" or "I really, really liked it." BUT I DID OKAY.
I really, really DID like it. And it WAS really, really good hahah.
But this post isn't going to be about Elon Musk, as much as I am a fan of that fella (after reading the WBW article, I just wanted to have a conversation with Elon Musk SOO BADLY. I rarely like to throw myself at people but man do I just want to be friends with Elon, just talk to him, maybe have a deep n meaningful here and there, share a joke. Please. Anything. Hahaha) (I laugh but it's true) (hahah) (still true).
It's actually about how much WBW inspires me actually. I've read some articles in the past and actually always thought it was an article website, with a whole team of writers contributing.
But it's not. It's actually just two dudes managing the whole thing.
One of them (Tim Urban) is the content creator and he spends 80+ hours per week researching and writing posts. And he loves it.
Another thing that makes me so happy is that their whole premise is about writing long, well-researched, in-depth articles. Not those click-baity, 29-ways-that-XXX type articles filled with stock pictures and gifs. But real, quality, investigative content about topics people wonder about. And people read it. And this is something I actually have always wanted to do/support. Like investigative pieces that help bring a little more truth and light to topics in this world.
AND AND ANOTHER THING is that they use Patreon (which is the site that I've posted about before which allows the public to pledge support for creators, artists, etc). And people actually support them! And they've almost reached their financial goal of $12,000/month, which will allow them to sustain WBW indefinitely WITHOUT ads. THE FUTURE IS NOW!!! Hahaha. But honestly this made me so happy. :)
Also I LOVE IT when stuff links up. Like it's just this unique feeling when something that I'm reading references something ELSE which I know about. In my brain, it's just like all these links start firing off and I'm like
Yes, my eyebrows lift right off my face. Right off. FAREWELL EYEBROWS, I'll always cherish the times we spent together!!
(haha that was a lot of fun to draw)
I guess what I want to say in this post is that they inspired me a lot today, finding out that this website which I thought was some big writing organisation is actually just two dudes with a passion for writing long articles about interesting stuff. AND THEY GOT TO MEET ELON MUSK!!!!!!
And lastly, not only are the posts well written but they're so comical and well illustrated as well.
Tim, after Elon Musk proposed that he could come to California to have an in-depth interview with him, if he'd like:
I think this comes at a time when I've been thinking about my own website and, you know, I am constantly thinking about it and still shaping it and figuring out what I want it to be like.
Recently, Mr. Human has been encouraging me to put my website more out there. Like I've written more than 100 posts and he wants people to read what I'm thinking and posting. And I've been at odds with it. Because I know some people read it here and there, Mr. Human reads every post and well, that makes me really happy already.
So if you're reading this now and you're following how my website is going and my posts, then just... thanks. Honestly, thank you. Like I know my posts are here and there, and maybe they're a little informal or don't have a theme, but I'm still shaping it. And I'll keep trying to shape it as I figure things out. So you're here in the beginning, and I'm glad. :)
For my part, I'm going to try just keep making this website more and more honest, easier to read and follow, more investigative and critical to find out the truth of issues, more thought out.
Because I realised when Mr. Human said that, that I didn't really mind if not that many people are reading this now. Because it doesn't matter if only like one person reads this now because you know what?
I'm in this for the long run. :)
